Stepper Motors

Stepper motors are commonly used in precision control applications. They are distinct from other motor types due to their ability to rotate in precise increments, known as steps. This characteristic makes stepper motors ideal for systems where precise positioning and control of motor rotation are essential.

Some of the primary features of a stepper motor are Precision Control and Holding Torque. Applications inlcude 3D printers, CNC machines and robotics where high precision is required.

The most common is the NEMA 17 which is a specification for stepper motors, primarily defined by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA). The "17" in NEMA 17 refers to the faceplate dimensions of the motor, which are 1.7 x 1.7 inches (approximately 43 x 43 mm). This specification is part of the reason why NEMA 17 motors are widely used in various applications, particularly where size and precision are important.
