This breakout is designed to make integration easy with both 3.3V and 5V systems. On-board regulation and level-friendly support circuitry let it work with platforms such as Arduino, Metro, Feather, and Raspberry Pi. With built-in STEMMA QT / Qwiic compatible connectors, you can plug it into the I2C bus with minimal wiring.
The VCNL4030 also gives you useful control over sensor behaviour. Parameters such as integration time, dynamic range, sensitivity, proximity duty cycle, and IR LED current can be adjusted so you can trade off speed, precision, range, and power consumption to suit your project.
Important: the VCNL4xxx family contains similar-looking parts, but their firmware is not interchangeable. You cannot simply swap a VCNL4030 for a VCNL4040 or related variant without using the correct library and recompiling your code.

The board includes STEMMA QT connectors for quick I2C hookup, but QT / Qwiic cable is not included.
For 5V boards, connect 5V, GND, SCL, and SDA. For 3.3V boards, connect 3V, GND, SCL, and SDA. If you use the interrupt feature, connect INT to a suitable GPIO with pull-up as required by your platform.
