Adafruit TMAG5273 (A2) 3D Hall Effect Magnetometer is a low-power linear magnetic sensor breakout built for precise 3-axis field sensing, motion detection, and rotary position measurement. It integrates independent Hall-effect sensors on the X, Y, and Z axes, with a built-in 12-bit ADC for digital readout over I2C.
The A2 variant supports a wider magnetic range of ±133mT / ±266mT, making it well suited for projects that use nearby permanent magnets, such as magnetic rotary encoders, contactless joysticks, smart controls, and motion-sensing mechanisms. An onboard temperature sensor is also available for basic temperature monitoring.
An integrated CORDIC angle engine can calculate full 360° angular position using two user-selected magnetic axes. The chip also supports magnetic gain and offset correction, though those values must be managed by the user and written to the device at boot. This sensor is intended for nearby magnets, not for measuring the earth's magnetic field.

It is a 3-axis Hall-effect magnetic sensor breakout for detecting the position, rotation, or motion of a nearby magnet. Typical uses include magnetic rotary encoders, contactless joysticks, and other motion-sensing mechanisms.
No. This breakout is intended for sensing nearby permanent magnets and is not a good choice for measuring the earth’s magnetic field.
The A2 variant supports selectable magnetic ranges of ±133 mT and ±266 mT. It has a wider range than the A1 version, which is meant for lower field strengths.
It uses an I2C interface and can be wired to SDA, SCL, power, and ground. The breakout also includes STEMMA QT / Qwiic-compatible connectors for quick I2C hookup.
Yes, the breakout includes support circuitry for use with both 3.3V and 5V logic systems. Adafruit’s guide says to power VIN with the same voltage as your microcontroller logic level.
Yes. The TMAG5273 includes a built-in temperature sensor and an internal CORDIC angle engine that can calculate full 360° angular position using two selected magnetic axes over I2C.
